Recognising burnout

Staff burnout is common in the field of healthcare. But many a times, we would push on as we take the responsibility of our patients upon ourselves or it may be seen as weak to be stressed. However it is natural to be stressed and we need to recognise when we need a break or when we need help. Here is a good article from NEJM.

Dark side of A&E


Dark side of A&E written by Adam Kay from the UK is a much needed article in the profession of medicine. Doctors are humans too... and the feelings we experience are as real as it is for anyone else.


There is much truth in this article. Even our family members and loved ones have difficulty understanding what we go through at work. And the media may not help when they highlight bad events. We too can be quite harsh to ourselves by not giving ourselves enough 'pats' on ours or our colleagues back. This article goes to show we are not alone... and perhaps talking about it early may help with our well-being... we need to start by supporting each other...
